Fine Arts:

 

Band:

The Band will rehearse before school twice a week. They perform as part of both the Fall and the Spring Music Concerts held at Mount Michael. During basketball season they will provide pep band music for all home games. Other activities they will be encouraged to take part in as an individual are All State Band, Nebraska Honor Band, Wesleyan University Honor Band, UNO Honor Band and District music Contest.

 

Chorus:

The Choir will rehearse before school twice a week. They perform for Grandparents Night and both the Fall and Spring Music Concerts here at Mount Michael. Other activities they will be encouraged to take part in as an individual are All State Choir, Nebraska Honor Choir, Wesleyan University Honor Choir, UNO Honor Choir and District music Contest. Strings: The String Ensemble will rehearse before school once a week. They will perform at both the Fall and Spring Music Concerts here at Mount Michael. Other activities they will be encouraged to take part in as an individual are All State Orchestra, Nebraska Honor Orchestra, Wesleyan University Honor Orchestra and District Music Contest.

Introduction to Theatre:

This class explores theatre history from its tribal roots, to its blossom in the seat of civilization in Ancient Greece, through its evolution to the modern age, to stage productions of today's Broadway scene.  Rounded topics give a full picture with focus on set/costume design, stagecraft, stage management, acting/directing theory as well as acting styles.


Art I:

Introduction to Art fundamentals. Areas included are:1. DRAWING -- emphasis on line, value, shape, and texture.2. DESIGN -- introduction to basic elements of design.3. PAINTING -- fundamental methods and techniques associated with watercolor.4. METALWORKING-- jewelry: copper & brass. 5. PRINTMAKING-- introduction to basic printmaking processes and techniques.6. SCULPTURE -- exploration of 3-dimensional forms using clay,wood, and wire.7. CALLIGRAPHY -- graphic design & shirt design. 8. PHOTOGRAPHY -- basic composition(One or two semesters; 2 cr. hrs./sem.) 

 

Art II:

Introductory studio courses in each studio area of concentration.The areas include:1. DRAWING -- introduction to representational drawing with emphasis on visual perception. 2. DESIGN -- emphasis on design elements of color and space.3. PAINTING -- introduction to the theory and perception of color with instruction in techniques appropriate to paint media. 4. PRINTMAKING -- emphasis on woodblock, and other forms of printmaking. 5. METALWORKING -- jewelry saw work with copper & brass. 6. CALLIGRAPHY -- graphic design & t-shirt design(One or two semesters; 2 cr. hrs./sem.)


Art III-IV

The students choose to work in different areas within the framework of advanced art. This course is open to Juniors and Seniors who have experience in varied fields of art. The student sets out a program in a particular media and explores it to the fullest limits of possibility. The areas of concentration include: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Word Sculpture, metalworking, calligraphy, graphic design, and Basic Photo. (One or two semesters each year; 2 cr. hrs./sem.)
