CC Captures Second at State

The 1998 Mount Michael Cross Country team wrapped up another successful season by capturing runner-up at the Class C State Championship. Leading the Knights at the state meet were seniors Michael Pecha with a third place finish and Nate Sander with a tenth place finish. Other runners on the runner-up team were juniors Eric Crawford and Mike Laurent and sophomores Danny Cihal and Colman Lynch.
During the season the team raced to first place finishes at Wahoo, Bennington, and Nebraska City Invitational. They also won the Centennial Conference title for the second year in a row and the District C-2 title for the fourth consecutive year. Pecha, Snader, Laurent, and Lynch earned All-Conference honors by placing first, fifth, ninth, and tenth respectively at the Conference Meet. At District Meet Pecha and Sanders finished first and second, while Laurent earned a fifth place finish. Lynch and Cihal were fourteenth and fifteenth.
The 1998 junior varsity cross country squad also had a measure of success by winning the Wahoo, Bennington, and Nebraska City Invitationals. They cruised to the junior varsity conference title by placing eight runners in the top fifteen. Individually, sophomore transfer Colin Spicka won the Plattsmouth, Bennington, Nebraska City and Conference titles.
