Goodbye Reception

“Basement, kiss it goodbye,” said principal Tom Ridder when asked about the cell phone reception that he receives in the building. There are only 21 people in our school that currently don’t have some type of cell phone. The most common was Verizon with Sprint coming in second, not to exclude the occasional track phone or the single T-mobile found from a recent poll.

Verizon at the Mount seems to be the most popular and for one particular reason. “I can get a signal anywhere in the building!” said Matt Loeffelholz. This would be a nice feature seeing as how almost everyone that doesn’t have Verizon seems to say that the only place to go is outside. There are currently 47 Verizon phones in circulation at Mount Michael. Everyone can talk for free from one to another and some can text message for free, because Verizon to Verizon is free in all cases, as long as you have a service plan, and this would be a huge advantage for the students at Mount Michael.

Sprint came in second with 24 phones while Alltel was third with 12. These phones seem to be less popular. A big reason for this could be the reception. “I can only get a couple bars in the school, but it fades in and out, however outside everything comes in fine,” said Zach Harvat.

The best place for almost all phones service seems to be outside. Some places are close to the building and some are in the parking lot. The big question seems to be if you can get reception in the dorm rooms. “There isn’t a strong signal but I still get the call through,” said Casey McCullen.

Even though the cell phone reception in our school seems to never be strong enough to carry out a full conversation without breaking up, cell phones are still used constantly here. “Cell phones are a blessing and a pain in the neck,” said Ridder. There are always going to be problems but some people just need them. “I couldn’t live without it, I would probably die, “said Loeffelholz. - by Aaron Haag
