The
freshman left early last Thursday to go on the freshman retreat.
We went to The Alpha Omega retreat center, several miles north of
Elkhorn. It was originally a horse ranch, but has been converted
into a retreat center where young adults and teens go to learn about
God.
We had a good time, and almost everyone played volleyball inside
what was once a horse walker. Then everyone was called to do some
games and activities. Teresa gave us a tour of everything, from
the obstacle course to the "Garden of Angels" After that,
we walked up to the house, and Father Dan gave us a great talk on
Jeremiah and one of the message that God gave to him. He passed
out clay and everyone formed something. The clay represented ourselves
removing our faults and reforming ourselves in goodness. After that,
We went back and ate lunch, which the Mom's had so nicely put together
for us. We ate our fill and went to play more Volleyball.
We
were all called back to the main area of the barn. We all put on
blindfolds and went on the trust walk. Each group had to hold onto
each others' shoulders while walking around the land, following
our group leader's voice. This taught us about trust. When everyone
got back, we went out and played football. We went back to the house,
and made small Rosaries. Then it was time to go. Everyone thanked
Teresa, Jim, and Virginia as we drove back to Mt. Michael.
I think the Freshman got a lot out of this trip. We learned the
value of trust. That God takes the faults out of us and tries to
use us for good. And we all learned a little more about each other
that we didn't know.
