The Knights arrived at Oakland Craig, the site of this
year’s district music, at about ten o’clock in the morning.
Students had time to walk around the town until about one o’clock
when the events began. The Choir performed first, singing “All
Things Bright and Beautiful,” and Sing ye Joyfully.”
The Knights received a rating of 3 from the judges, with a rating
of 1 being the highest and 4 being the lowest. Steve Christenson
was the next to perform, playing a tenor sax solo. He received a
two for his solo of “Danish Dance.” Kyle Buschelman
also performed a sax solo. He played the “Marine Hymn”
and was given a rating of three. Mount Michael’s strings performed
in five different events and were awarded a one in all of them.
The string trio of A.J. Killeen, Kyle Svingen, and Zach Pluhacek
played “Trio Number One in D Major.” Kyle Svingen played
“Allegro” in a violin solo and Zach Pluhacek played
“Allegro Appassionato” in a cello solo. Killeen and
Svingen
also participated in a violin duet playing “Concerto in D
Minor.” The fifth event was the string ensemble, comprised
of Killeen, Pluhacek, Svingen, and Paul Farnya. They played the
“Emperor Waltz.” Senior A.J. Killeen said, “It
was a good performance to end my Mount Michael strings career with.”
Mrs. Theis chose not to send the band to this years
competition. As for the rest
of the day, Theis said, “I think we did really well, we took fewer people,
but the people who went did really well.”
