Looking For a New Track
Click for Larger Photo of Cracked TrackThe Mount has recently begun to look into a fund drive to build a new track. The current track has been in rough shape for some time and it has reached the point where it is barely useable. Rather than sink money into repairing the old non-standard (400 yard vs 400 meters) track it would be better to invest in a new track in a new location. Why?

Looking at the big picture, over time, it is the hope that the Knights might one day have not only a good track to host meets but a home football & soccer stadium. The current location runs east-west which runs against the usual north-south orientation of how tracks and athletic fields generally run. The location is also hemmed in by the current baseball field, practice fields and the school itself. To realign the current track would also take out much of the practice football & soccer fields. A new location not only will provide the correct alignment it also provides space for development of further facilities.

On March 12 a gathering of alumni, parents, and other interested individuals gathered at Clancy’s in Omaha where Abbot Michael presented the concept. At this point it is a vision that promises good things. The next step is to get the funding to create the plans and develop estimates for various stages of development. When asked about the time frame Abbot Michael said, “If we had the money tomorrow, we would start immediately.” The hope is to achieve this 1st track stage as a foundation for future development with the hope of a major fund drive sometime in the future for further stages and other facilities needs for the school.
