Ash Wednesday A Time For Improvement

On Ash Wednesday the monks, faculty, and students of Mount Michael gathered in D.J. Sokol Chapel for Mass and the distribution of ashes.

In his homily Abbot Michael spoke of three ways evil comes into the world. First is through ignorance. Actions we make by mistake due to being unaware, or not well thought out or ignorant of something are a source of evil. Secondly bad choices made with the idea that we hope to not be caught though we know what we do is wrong is another source of evil that brings harm not only to ourselves but to others. Lastly evil is brought into the world through malice. Decisions to hurt others out of hate, vengeance, or simple meanness can be a great source of suffering and evil.

The ashes distributed on this day remind us of our mortality but God didn’t desire mortality for us it is sin that brings death. The season of lent gives us 40 days to pray and work to improve ourselves in hope of eternal life through the resurrection of Christ.
