1985 State Basketball Champion
Coach Kane Comments
Michaeleen March/April 1985 p.4
We completed our basketball season on a very happy note by winning our second state championship in the last three years. This is truly a great accomplishment considering all the teams that go after the state title each year. I am proud of the effort and hard work; it was a team effort by everyone.
Our whole basketball program had a successful year. Besides the varsity our junior varsity had a 12-4 record, and the freshman team was 8-2. Junior varsity coach George Roshone and freshmen coach Jim Leise did outstanding jobs.
Our seniors contributed a great deal to this year’s success. Doug Wemhoff, John Sojka, Bob Beringer, John Kinney and John McClellan will be missed next year. John Noble, our only junior starter, will have to be our leader, and I am confident he will do a good job as he did this year. Our other young people will have to come along and develop into a team.
Now that the smoke has cleared, one can really appreciate the job our boys did. In all the tournaments I have coached in, out teams have never had to play so many tough teams I a row. Every game we had was extremely had and very close. A team’s mettle is tested in adversity. I think our kids came through the state tournament with flying colors.
To our student body, alumni, parents and loyal fans. I am very appreciative for your support and backing. It was truly a Mount Michael victory
