Staffing Changes at Mount Michael

After ten years coaching and serving as the Activities Director and, more recently, the Dean of Students, Mr. Derrik Spooner has announced his resignation from Mount Michael, effective for the 2025-2026 school year. He has accepted a position at Papillion-La Vista Public Schools. We wish him the best in his new role.

Mr. Tom Swanson ’01 will be stepping into the role of Activities Director, in addition to continuing to teach history and coach spring and American Legion baseball. Mr. Tyler Linder will be joining our staff next school year as the Dean of students. Read more about them below.

 


Tom Swanson
Mount Michael Benedictine School is proud to name Mr. Tom Swanson ’01 as the new Activities Director. Tom has 18 years of teaching experience here in Nebraska; 10 years at Mount Michael and 8 years in Alliance. He has coached basketball, cross country, track, softball, and 22 years of high school and American Legion baseball. He lives in Omaha with his wife Chasity, their daughter Ellie, son Grady, and dog Auggie. Tom is a proud 2001 graduate of Mount Michael and 2007 alumnus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In addition to his new AD duties, Tom will continue to teach history and coach spring and Legion baseball for Mount Michael.

 


Tyler Linder
Mount Michael Benedictine School is proud to name Mr. Tyler Linder as the new Dean of Students. Tyler is from Fremont, Nebraska, where he graduated from Archbishop Bergan High School. He played football at Dakota State University, earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in Sociology and Religious studies, and later earned his teaching endorsements at Grace University. He has taught and coached at Archbishop Bergan, St. Peter Claver, and most recently, Scotus Central Catholic, where he has taught theology and coached football for 13 years. Tyler and his wife Alysha have been married for 11 years and have 5 children: Carter, Silas, Cecilia, Flora, and Linus. As a family, they share a love of faith, sports, and quality time playing board games and card games together. As he embarks on this new chapter at Mount Michael, Tyler remains committed to fostering an environment where students can grow academically, spiritually, and athletically. His passion for Catholic education and his dedication to shaping young men into faith-filled leaders continue to drive his work each day.
