Frequently Asked Questions
Below is a list of topics and questions often asked by incoming and current families.
Daily Schedule
- On Mondays, students report to the chapel before class at 7:45 am. Missing chapel may result in an automatic detention.
- On a regular schedule day, school begins at 7:55 am and ends at 3:24 pm. The most frequently-used bell schedules can be found here.
- Many students arrive around 7:30 am to get organized and ready for the day.

How early/late can students arrive/stay every day?
- Day students may arrive at the school beginning at 7:00 am and should be off campus by 5:30 pm unless participating in an event.
- The main entrance doors to the Sokol building are open for students between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Additional Building Information:
- Teachers are available for help outside of class between 7:30-7:50 am and 3:24-4:00 pm, and during their individual planning periods.
- Drop off and pick up at the main entrance of the Sokol building or outside the Chapel.
- Mount Michael is a closed campus. Students are not allowed to leave during the school day except for an appointment. No food deliveries are allowed except during Wednesday night visits.
Mount Michael does not require students to wear a uniform. Here is an overview of our dress code.
Warm weather dress code may be worn from the first day of school through Sept. 30, and from May 1 through the end of the school year.
- Solid colored dress shorts (no athletic, cargo, or other casual shorts)
- Polo style shirt, tucked in
- Socks
- Belt
- Athletic shoes (no sandals)
From Oct. 1 through April 30, regular dress code is in effect unless special dress codes (e.g. theme dress days or dress down days) have been noted for specific occasions.
- Dress slacks (no joggers, cargo pants, or other casual pants)
- Belt
- Collared dress shirt
- Necktie or bow tie
- Appropriate shoes (no crocs, sandals, slippers, or backless shoes)
All year, these rules are in effect:
- Sport coats, sweaters, and quarter zips are allowed if a student is cold (no hooded sweatshirts)
- Sweatshirts allowed only if they are purchased from the Mount Michael Bookstore, no other branding is allowed.
- A solid colored blazer, sport coat, or suit coat will be required on formal occasions
- Hair should not touch your collar or be in your eyes or below your ears
- Students must be clean-shaven

Please note the bookstore has many items available for purchase, including selected textbooks, school supplies, limited toiletry items, and snacks and drinks. The bookstore also sells Mount Michael-branded sweatshirts that fit the dress code.
Some specific supplies may be required by teachers. This information will be given to your student within the first few days of school.
Students are NOT allowed to have the following items in the dorms:
- Cooking appliances such as hot plates, toasters and rice cookers
- TVs, projectors, video game consoles
- Space heaters, air conditioners
- Microwaves

- Student forms must be turned in before the start of school. Forms can be found here.
- Athletic practices begin a few days prior to the first day of school. Coaches will send out information to students.
- On the Sunday before classes begin, the Booster Club hosts a back to school Mass and picnic for all students, staff, and their families. More information will come from Gail Raabe.
- An information session for new students and parents will be held in the Armory following the school picnic
Freshman Orientation
- The three days before classes begin are freshman orientation days. Students get to know their classmates, teachers, and the campus. Students will also receive their locker combinations.
- During the first week of school, freshmen will be given their computer and email login and an introduction to other technology in the library.
- Generally, teachers will issue textbooks and other necessary supplies on the first few days of classes. Most students will bring a few notebooks, folders or binders, and pens and pencils on the first day.
Curriculum Night
- This evening gives parents a chance to attend their son’s classes and meet his teachers by following his schedule. Curriculum Night will be held on a Wednesday evening in the first 4 weeks of school. Watch the weekly bulletin for more information.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
- Parent/Teacher conferences are held twice each school year, after the first and third quarters of the year. Check the rSchool calendar and the weekly bulletin for specific dates.
- Parents may always contact their son’s teachers at any time during the year with questions or concerns.
- The NSAA requires an annual physical exam dated after May 1 to participate in sanctioned athletics.
- Please use the form from your physician. It must clearly state whether your student is cleared to participate or list any restrictions on activity.
- Parents are welcome to attend school Masses.
